SHREWSBURY SEVERN ROTARY CLUB
ROTARY CLUB ANNOUNCES NEW KEY APPOINTMENTS
A number of new key appointments, some featuring members who have recently joined, are announced today following its annual meeting.
In addition to now becoming Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club’s new Tree of Light lead, Joycelin Hoyland, who joined its ranks only last year, will also take on a new Youth Lead role.
She will spearhead the renewal of youth involvement by the club and has already outlined initial ideas to members.
Joycelin also becomes Shrewsbury Severn Rotary’s president in 2008 or 2009.
As well as providing two Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) for an intensive leadership, training and development programme, the club has identified a potential opportunity for students at Shrewsbury Colleges Group – where Joycelin is Chair of Governors – to undertake community projects within the town.
She is also the club’s Fellowship Lead chairing a social team which is planning a plethora of fellowship events over the coming 12 months.
Said club president Johnathan Callwood: “By taking on these key roles I am absolutely delighted that Joycelin is putting her heart and soul into our aims and ambitions.
“Her enthusiasm is infectious and she is proving to be a role model for the kind of Rotarian we absolutely need going forward.
“I am confident her enthusiasm and spirit will result in more women spotting talents and opportunities they could utilise in the best interests of the Rotary charitable movement.”
Gemma Wasteney, who is also a newcomer to the club, has taken on the role of International Lead and will work closely with Joycelin when and where necessary over the next 12 months.
And newcomer, Ray Walker is also taking up an appointment again within a short time of joining the club. He has been appointed Membership Lead, exploring opportunities not only for new club members, but also corporate members following Shrewsbury Severn Rotary’s recent success in recruiting three corporates.
And another new member, Alistair Bates, has taken on the role of Digital Lead.
In slight contrast, one of the club’s longest serving Rotarians, Fred McDonogh, confirmed he will continue as the club’s Sleigh Lead.
And another long-serving member Bob Scaiff becomes Regalia and Club History Lead.
The president added: “During the coming year my aim is that every member has a role, every member feels valued, and every member contributes to our shared mission.
“As we begin our journey towards creating the new hospital garden, we will build not only a lasting community asset, but a stronger Rotary club in which every member has a valued place.”
