Female Rotarian set to take on new role
NEW FEMALE ROTARIAN IS FAST TRACKED TO PROMOTION
Promotion has come faster than ever expected for a relatively new Rotarian.
Joycelin Hoyland, who joined Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club as only the second woman member in their near 40-year history last year, is now its new vice president.
She succeeds Marcus Watkin who has decided to stand down due to current issues concerning his health.
He said today: “My time as vice president since June 2025 has been very fulfilling with the club having been involved with club projects, including the new Santa sleigh campaign.
"President Johnathan Callwood has been very understanding about my decision to step down as vice president, as have all the members, due to my recent health issues since January this year .
“I am certain that Joycelin will take up the position of vice president and continue to develop the club’s projects and fundraising campaigns.”
Marcus added: “I will continue to be a Shrewsbury Severn Rotary member and will be involved in my existing role which includes managing some of the social media as well as the club’s website.”
Joycelin, chair of governors at Shrewsbury Colleges , now steps up and will succeed current president Johnathan Callwood next spring.
She said today: “Whilst my move to vice president comes with sadness as to the reason, I am honoured that the club has faith in me.
“I will do my utmost to represent the members of the club and continue with the excellent work the Rotarians do in support of the local community. “
Said the current president “ Working with Marcus on the various exciting projects that we have in progress has been a pleasure. We have a new website and excellent social media presence, closer contact with Shrewsbury Food Hub and other charities as a result of Marcus’s ability to bring people together to help and support. I respect Marcus’s decision to step down and he has a remarkable ability to act for the greater good. These are the qualities of a true Rotarian. Joycelin has those qualities and I know that the club will continue to grow and help many more people under her guidance."
