Welcome

The Rotary Club of Shrewsbury Severn was formed in 1986, originally named the Rotary Club of Shawbury and Mid Shropshire.

Over the years as more of our charity fundraising and donations became centred around Shrewsbury, as did our membership, we decided in 2015 to change our name  to the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury Severn.

We are one of over 1,800 Rotary Clubs in the UK and Ireland with a membership of 55,000.

The objective of Rotary is to encourage service and Rotarians deliver this ideal mainly by being active in their communities supporting local charities and good causes.

Since the Club’s inception we have raised in excess of £500,000, the majority of which has been donated to good causes in and around the Shrewsbury area.

Additionally, we support international aid programmes, especially the eradication of polio where Rotary has lead a worldwide campaign. Since the program’s inception in 1979 cases have plummeted from over 1,000 daily in 125 countries to just two endemic nations.

We organise a number of fundraising campaigns throughout the year, our primary focus being the Christmas period where we run two major events, the Santa Sleigh and the Tree of Light. The former activity sees our brand new sleigh outside the main supermarkets and touring the streets of Shrewsbury to the delight of young and old alike. The latter is our annual remembrance event where donations are received in memory of departed loved ones.

All the money raised is used by the Club to support a plethora of local charities and good causes. Examples include Hope House Children’s Hospice, Severn Hospice, Midlands Air Ambulance, RSH League of Friends, Lingen Davies Cancer Charity, The Shrewsbury Ark, Crucial Crew, Alzheimer’s Shrewsbury, Grange School and many many more.

Our membership comprises people from all walks of life and new members are given the warmest of welcomes. We have an active programme of social events and there’s always something to occupy us. We meet twice a month and our evenings are full of good humour and friendship.
